Borovetz is the biggest international mountain resort in Bulgaria. Lots of world ski championships were organized here. It is located at 1350 (4,429') above the sea level on the Northern slopes of Rila mountain among age-old pine woods, at the foot of Mousala peak (2925 m - 9,596') the highest one not only on the Balkan peninsula but in Central and Southeast Europe. Borovetz is easily accessible, being at a distance of 70 km (43.4 miles) from Sofia (the capital of Bulgaria) and 126 km (78.2 miles) from Plovdiv. The nearest town is Samokov, which is 10 km (6.2 miles) far from the resort. Borovetz was developed into a modern ski resort of high class with luxury hotels, restaurants, discos, shops and of course an excellent network of ski runs and lifts along the slopes of the mountain. Borovetz is a resort of Alpine type and provides excellent opportunities for a whole range of winter sports-Alpine sports, cross-country skiing, ski jumps and biathlon. The resort has twice hosted World Cup Alpine skiing rounds. Its biathlon track is one of the best in Europe.
Usually the slopes of Borovetz have a permanent snow cover from November to May. The air in Borovetz is crystal - clear and free of any pollutants. The average temperature during the coldest month January is - 4.6 °C (40.2 F). Available ski runs for beginners, intermediates and advanced skiers. The slopes and runs are maintained in perfect condition and are designed with international markings and multilingual signs.
The Borovetz ski school is known worldwide as a prestigious one. There are more than 200 ski instructors fluent in foreign languages and most of them are former professional skiers.
The SKI PATROL provides to 24 hour emergency service.
The ski runs of Borovetz are located in three different regions. Cross-country and biathlon tracks are located 2 km (1.2 miles) away from the resort together with the cross-country tuition tracks. The runs for the ski jumps are 75 m (246') and 50 m (164') long and are serviced by a chair lift. Borovetz is serviced by an efficient ski lift system
Apres Ski
Borovetz is full of pubs, bars, cafes, night clubs, discos, making it a really good place for apres-ski. The night life is excellent, with the clubs and the discos at Rila and Samokov hotels. Most of them working till the early morning, and offering good prices and special 'happy hour' discounts. Music that is played is mostly international dance music. Very often special shows are presented at the clubs. There are available restaurants and tavern with Bulgarian national folk music and 'horo' dancing, which some people find very interesting.

When you’ve had enough sport, you can choose among one of the following: trip to Rila Monastery, Sofia and Plovdiv, visit to a Bulgarian village, sleigh ride.
In summer: Borovetz is an attractive resort not only in the winter. With its crisp mountain air and forest freshness it is the perfect place to escape to from the scorching summer heat. You can spend pleasant hours of relaxing in our summer garden, cooled by the fresh air carried up from the waterfall and cascades. Don’t miss outdoor barbecue where our chef will prepare mouth-watering specialties, grilled on live coals, right before your eyes.
There’s no need to worry about your kids or miss out on your own entertainment – a children’s playground whit swing and games has been especially arranged for your youngsters. Hiking fans can choose from different tours whit a mountain guide to landmarks in the area – Sitnyakovo Place, peak Moussala, Rila lakes, etc. Special fishing to Iskur dam are organized on request. Medical & dental service
The Emergency SKI PATROL service is available 24 hours a day. Ambulance and clinic (with doctor and nurse) are available, as well as first aid, on all ski slopes. Fully equipped and functioning hospitals is available in Samokov and Sofia. Highly qualified dentists are available at the resort too. Pharmacies are available at the resort. Some medical and all dental services must be cash to the doctors (clinics). They should provide the necessary bills, receipts and invoices describing the service and the cost, so that you can claim back the expense to your insurance company.
